Pakistan, China to cooperate in research, development of Hybrid seeds

Pakistan and China have agreed to start cooperation for the development of Hybrid wheat, rice, oilseeds, Sugarcane, BT and coloured cotton seeds to enhance by multiple their per acre yield.

An Agreement in this regard was signed between Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) and Beijing Engineering Center for Hybrid Wheat here at Pakistan Embassy on Friday.

The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Water Mr. Kamal Majidulla and Mr. Zhao Chun Ping, Director, Beijing Engineering Center for Hybrid Wheat, Mr. Zhao Chun Ping signed the Agreement.

Agreement signing ceremony was witnessed by Mr. Salman Faruqui, Secretary General to President, Ambassador Masood Khan, Ambassador-at-Large Khalil Ahmed, Chairman WAPDA, Shakil Durrani and Secretary EAD, Farrakh Qayyum.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Masood Khan said that Pakistan and China have successfully pushed forward bilateral cooperation in Agriculture Research & Development.

Both countries are already cooperating in development of Hybrid Rice, he said.

An agreement in this regard was signed during the visit of President Asif Ali Zardari to China in February 2009.

Pakistan and China will continue to broaden the base of bilateral cooperation in Agriculture in future, said Ambassador Masood Khan.

Mr. Kamal Majidulla said that his delegation held threadbare discussion for improved research with the Chinese Academy of Agriculture Sciences (CAAS) which is the foremost body on agricultural development in China.

“The CAAS agreed to fully cooperate with the government of Pakistan in all fields of agricultural development including increased production of vegetable crops and floriculture “, Mr. Kamal told APP.
