| Pakistan, China to cooperate in research, training, exchanges in agriculture |

BEIJING, Nov 5 (APP): Pakistan and China have expressed their desire to broaden the long-term scientific collaboration in research and technical areas in agriculture sector for the common benefits of the two countries. The Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) under Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock and Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) have in this regard reaffirmed their mutual interest focusing on the broad areas of science and technology.
The PARC and CAAS will work for mutual benefits in animal science, plant science, soil science, agriculture, natural resources management and other related fields with mutual consultation. Both the countries in this connection have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during President Asif Ali Zardari?s state visit to China last month.
The MoU is intended to serve as a framework for discussion and coordination in matters related to agriculture and natural resources managements. It will also facilitate collaborative activities between both sides in matters of science and technology.
Both sides to encourage and facilitate direct contact among the relevant institutions and specialists and work toward long-term cooperation in agricultural research, exchanges, training and development programmes. The PARC and CAAS will lay emphasis for cooperation in Water resource management, Hybrid Cotton, Maize, Horticulture and other transgenic crops as they relate to natural resources for preservation and profitability of agriculture.
The MoU envisages reciprocal visits by PARC and CAAS scientists may be planned to collaborate in new areas of research or plan for additional long-term exchanges.
The individual projects should be mutually developed by PARC and CAAS and their institutions shall cooperate on the basis of specific research and development in areas specified in the MoU.
The CAAS may arrange short and long term academic training in its institutions in various areas for PARC.
